When it comes to social media for restaurants and bars, a common reoccurrence is the constant use of sales-type content – booking-type posts, tables available etc, I see it all the time!
Although this is not the wrong approach and should be included in your strategy, the absent use of storytelling or valuable information is what sees a drop in engagement and bookings.
The constant sales-type posts on a regular basis with no value in between or a reason to dine with you is counterproductive. How will you attract new customers and give them a reason to spend their hard-earned money without showing any worth?ย
This is where the ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ method by Gary Vaynerchuk comes into play – a brilliant concept that all businesses should be taking note of.
“Jabs are the value you provide your customers with: the content you put out, the good things you do to convey your appreciation. And the right hook is the ask: itโs when you go in for the sale, ask for a subscribe, ask for a donation”
When using this for your restaurant’s social media strategy, the Jabs are the behind the scenes posts, the staff photos, and then Right Hooks are your ‘book now’ type posts.
Below are three Jab ideas that you can throw into your restaurant’s social media strategy:
Behind-the-scenes content – Showcasing how a customer’s favourite dish is one way of adding value, after all, who doesn’t like watching cooking shows?!
Staff Photos/Videos – Build a connection with your customers by showcasing the staff who they interact with inside your restaurant. This could be short interview-style videos asking fun questions or just simply a photo!
Supplier Content – Giving an insight into where your ingredients come from is one way of giving value to your customers. This could be in the form of a video showcasing your local vegetable supplier – showing you source locally and care about the community.
